Get a free quote ### How to store logs properly Storage does more for burn quality than almost anything else. - Stack off the ground on pallets or bearers so the bottom layer stays dry - Cover the top only, never wrap the whole stack in a sealed sheet - Leave the sides open so air can move through the pile - Site the store somewhere sunny and exposed to wind rather than in a damp corner - Bring the next few days' worth indoors so it warms and dries further before burning - Rotate the stack so the oldest wood is burned first ### Species and seasoning Because the logs come from our own tree work, species varies with the jobs we are doing: a week of oak and beech work produces different firewood from a week of conifer removals. Denser hardwoods generally burn longer and hotter, while softer timber lights easily and burns quicker. What matters more than species is moisture: any log burns badly if it is wet, and all timber needs time in a well-ventilated store before it is ready. Buying ahead of the season, rather than in the middle of it, is what makes that possible. ### Keeping your own timber after tree work If we are felling or dismantling a tree in your garden, that timber does not have to leave.
