Overview

## Compost & Manure explained
Good soil is the cheapest garden improvement there is. We supply compost and well-rotted manure in bulk across Surrey, and can barrow and spread it across beds and borders while we are on site.

### What we supply
Bulk compost and well-rotted manure for soil improvement, mulching and bed preparation, delivered across Surrey. Because we are a landscaping and grounds team rather than a delivery service, we can also barrow it round to a rear garden and spread it across beds and borders while we are on site, which is the part most people would rather not do themselves.

### Who it is for
Gardeners preparing beds for a planting season. Homeowners on tired, hungry Surrey soil where nothing establishes well. Anyone taking on a garden that has been left, where borders need bulk organic matter before planting is worth attempting. Allotment holders and smallholders buying by volume rather than by bag. And clients already booking landscaping or maintenance who want the beds fed while we are there.

### When it is needed
Autumn and late winter are the classic windows: mulch laid then breaks down and is worked in by soil life before spring. Compost also goes down at bed preparation before planting, around established shrubs and fruit as an annual top-up, and as part of any planting scheme where the existing soil is thin, sandy or compacted clay.

### Why bulk organic matter matters
Almost every underperforming garden has a soil problem rather than a plant problem. Organic matter is what improves both extremes: it opens up heavy clay so roots and water can move, and it gives sandy soil the structure to hold moisture and nutrients. It also feeds the soil life that keeps a border functioning. Bagged compost from a garden centre is fine for pots; changing a border needs volume, and volume means bulk.

### What is included

What happens if it is left

## The cost of waiting is rarely the cost you expect

### Unimproved soil wastes the planting budget
New plants put into compacted, exhausted ground sulk, fail to establish and are frequently replaced within a season or two. Improving the bed first costs a fraction of replanting it twice.

### Bare soil loses structure and grows weeds
Uncovered borders cap over in heavy rain, dry hard in summer and offer open ground for weed seed. A mulch layer holds moisture, protects the surface and suppresses a large share of annual weeds.

### Fresh manure damages what it is meant to feed
Manure that has not rotted down is high in ammonia and will scorch roots and foliage. It can also bring in weed seed. Well-rotted material is dark, crumbly and odour-neutral, and that is what should go on a border.

### Common mistakes we are called in to correct

- Buying by the bag for a project that needs cubic metres, and paying several times the bulk price
- Spreading fresh, unrotted manure straight onto beds and scorching the planting
- Digging mulch deep into an established border instead of laying it on the surface and letting the soil work it in
- Mounding compost up against tree trunks and shrub stems, where it holds moisture against the bark
- Mulching bone-dry ground in summer, which seals the dryness in rather than holding moisture

How the work runs

## Our process
Step 1

### Work out the volume
We look at the beds, or take the measurements over the phone, and work out how many cubic metres the area actually needs at the depth you want.

Step 2

### Agree material and access
Compost or well-rotted manure, plus where a tipped load can go and whether it has to be barrowed round to a rear garden.

Step 3

### Free quote
A price covering supply, delivery and, where you want it, barrowing and spreading, given free and with no obligation.

Step 4

### Delivery
Material delivered to the agreed point across Weybridge and the surrounding Surrey area, at a time arranged with you.

Step 5

### Barrowing and spreading
Where booked, we barrow it through and spread it across beds and borders to an even depth, keeping it clear of stems and trunks.

Step 6

### Clear down
Drive, path and access route swept clean before we leave, so there is no trail of compost through the property.

Why it is worth doing properly

## What you get from this job

### Bulk pricing without the logistics
No van hire, no trailer, no dozens of bags: the volume you actually need, delivered.

### The heavy work handled
Barrowing to a rear garden and spreading across borders can be included, which is the part that takes most people a weekend.

### Well-rotted material only
Manure supplied rotted down, so it feeds the border rather than scorching it.

### Combines with other work
Can be added to a landscaping, planting or maintenance visit, so it arrives at the right point in the job.

### Local delivery
Weybridge based, delivering across Surrey and the southwest London edges: short runs, easy scheduling.

### Insured working on your property
£5,000,000 public liability cover in place while we are on site.

In detail

## Compost & Manure: materials, methods and variations

### What to use where
Different jobs call for different material and different depths.

- Border mulching: a surface layer over damp soil, kept clear of stems and trunks
- Bed preparation before planting, organic matter incorporated into the top of the soil
- Clay improvement: bulk organic matter to open up structure and improve drainage over time
- Sandy soil, organic matter to help the ground hold moisture and nutrients
- Vegetable beds and allotments: well-rotted manure applied ahead of the growing season
- Around fruit trees and established shrubs: an annual top-up mulch ring

### Volumes, depths and access
Bulk material is sold and thought about in cubic metres, and a useful mulch layer over a decent stretch of border adds up quickly. Two practicalities decide how a delivery goes: where a load can be tipped, and how far it then has to travel. A drive next to the garden gate is straightforward. A tipped load that has to be barrowed through a house-side passage to a rear garden is a different amount of work, and we would rather price that honestly at the start than surprise you with it. Tell us the access at enquiry and the quote reflects reality.

### Timing through the year
Autumn mulching protects soil through winter and is broken down by spring. Late-winter application feeds beds ahead of the growing season without smothering emerging growth. Spring mulch should go onto ground that is already moist: mulching dry soil locks the dryness in. Manure benefits from time on the border before planting into it, so applying it a season ahead is better than applying it the same week.

### Supplied alongside our other work
This service exists largely because our landscaping, planting and maintenance clients need soil improvement at a specific point in a job: after clearance, before planting, or as part of the autumn round. Booking it alongside work we are already doing on your garden means one visit, one team and no separate delivery to be in for.

### Delivery area
We deliver compost and manure across Weybridge, Esher, Cobham, Leatherhead, Guildford, Dorking, Kingston, Richmond, Wimbledon and the surrounding Surrey area. Call 07817 791046 to check availability and current pricing for the volume you need.

Straight answers

## Compost & Manure questions we get asked
Anything not covered here, ask on the phone: 07817 791046, 7:30am – 7:30pm, seven days a week.

How much does bulk compost or manure cost?Pricing depends on the material, the volume and where you are, so call 07817 791046 and we will give you a straight figure for what you need, including delivery. Quotes are free.

How much do I need?It depends on the area and the depth you want. Give us the rough dimensions of the beds and we will work the volume out with you rather than leaving you to guess.

Is the manure well rotted?Yes: that is the point. Well-rotted material is dark, crumbly and safe to put on a border. Fresh manure scorches planting and is not what we supply for beds.

Can you spread it for us?Yes. Barrowing to rear gardens and spreading across beds and borders can be included in the quote, which is usually the reason people call us rather than a bulk-bag supplier.

Where will the load be tipped?Somewhere agreed with you before delivery, usually a drive or hard standing. If it has to go further than that, we build the barrowing into the price up front.

When is the best time to mulch?Autumn and late winter are ideal. Spring works too, as long as the soil is already moist: mulching bone-dry ground keeps it dry underneath.

How deep should mulch go?A useful layer across the border surface, kept clear of stems and trunks so moisture is not held against the bark. We set the depth with you when we quote the volume.

Can I use it on a vegetable patch?Yes, well-rotted manure is well suited to vegetable beds, ideally applied ahead of the growing season rather than immediately before planting into it.

Do you deliver to my area?We deliver across Weybridge, Esher, Cobham, Leatherhead, Guildford, Dorking, Kingston, Richmond, Wimbledon and the surrounding Surrey area.

Can this be added to other work you are doing for me?Yes, and it is usually the cheapest way to buy it: the team is already on site, so there is no separate delivery visit to arrange.
